There are a number of options available for reaching Dinan from the UK.

Ferries

For those people wishing to bring their own car, or if you prefer a boat journey, then this is the best way. Brittany ferries operate from Portsmouth to St. Malo which is less than half an hour by car to the house. The over night crossing leaves Portsmouth at 2030 and deliberately takes its time in order to arrive in St. Malo at the civilised time of about 0800. This enables you to have a leisurely meal and a good night's sleep in a cabin if you wish. The return journey from St. Malo is faster and during the day. Alternatively a cheaper and shorter crossing is from Portsmouth to Caen. There is a very good road connection to Dinan passing near to Mont St. Michel on the way. Without stops you can easily be in Dinan in around 2 hours. Brittany Ferries have started a new Fast Craft Service taking just over 2 hours between Poole and Cherbourg. There is also the possibility of a fast ferry between Portsmouth and Caen. If you live in the West country, Plymouth to Roscoff is a good option.

If you decide to go by Brittany Ferries I can give people who make a firm booking an account number which you give to Owners in France Travel Services and this will get you a discount on the normal fare. Call 0870 556 1475. Depending on when you travel, some people have managed to save over a hundred pounds.

Condor Ferries operate a fast ferry service to St. Malo via the Channel Islands. The crossing from Poole or Weymouth only takes 5 hours but does not run all year. For further information ring 01305 761551 or try www.condorferries.co.uk/sti .

Air travel

If you do not intend to bring a car or if you wish to hire one in France then this is a real possibility. Ryanair operate a regular scheduled service from London Stanstead to Dinard Airport which is under 10 miles from the house. The flight takes under an hour and it is possible to get some very cheap flights at times e.g. £0.01 each way!! Taxes are added but a friend of mine recently paid under £30 for the return journey. Expect more than this usually! There are taxis to take you to Dinan where you can easily rely on foot, bus or train if you wish. Otherwise, hire a car from the little airport.

For further information explore the possibilities on http://www.ryanair.com/  where you can also make bookings.

Train

If you get sea sick or hate flying then why not let the train take the strain! Get the Eurostar from  London Waterloo to Paris from where it is possible to get a connection to Dinan [a further 3 or so hours].
